Rs. 100 crores is a figure that has been a common aim for any Bollywood star. But things have changed now, and the superstars from the South are also trying to hit the same mark, specifically when their films are dubbed in Hindi.
The majority of the audience refuses to watch with subtitles as they find it hard to follow the ongoing proceedings on screen. In this case, the pan-India concept has helped a lot over the last few years and even contributed to the popularity of some faces in the North Indian market.
Unfortunately, a few of them have entered the 100-crore club. Who are they? Let’s check the list.
1) Prabhas
This is a name that would always remain on top. The Rebel Star has a record of taking a big opening, which brings some profit for the producers. The journey started with Baahubali: The Beginning. There was no one to stop him anymore since the follow-up attracted the masses in Hindi. More titles were added to the list – Saaho, Adipurush, Salaar, and Kalki 2898 AD.
2) Allu Arjun
People fell in love with his dance and looks. But with Pushpa: The Rise, he proved that he is capable of impressing the North Indians. Considering the massive box office numbers of the sequel, the Icon Star now has two films in his credits that created records in Hindi.
3) Yash
When K.G.F. Chapter 1 was released with SRK’s Zero, the former was getting a low response, alongside being praised at the same time. The situation took a different turn with its television premiere in Hindi, and people watched it by downloading it online. Audiences ensured that they won’t miss the sequel on the big screen, which entered the 100-crore club in three days in North India.
4) Rajinikanth
The Tamil superstar’s fan base is completely different from others. The grand scale of 2.0 left a good impression on the Hindi audience, and they purchased the tickets without wasting time. While records were created during that period, it did not repeat with Jailer, Vettaiyan, or Coolie.
5) Jr. NTR
Considering the long gap, the public was waiting to witness the world created by S.S. Rajamouli in RRR. With Jr. NTR and Ram Charan joining hands for the first time, expectations were sky high. The former’s intense entry featuring a tiger, followed by him taking down the villains, was greeted with whistles and claps. This gave him his first 100-cr film in Hindi.
6) Ram Charan
It is hard to bring two superstars together for a film, based on today’s market conditions. But S.S. Rajamouli did not give up, and history was created at the box office. He used the potential of the Mega Power Star to tell a story, and this contributed to a strong run, with Rs. 100 crores achieved in five days. However, the same excitement was missing at the time of Game Changer. This also applies to Jr. NTR’s Devara.
Kantara: A Legend was a few steps away from entering the 100-crore club three years ago. As a producer and director, Rishab decided to take more time, ensuring that he can pull more crowds from the first day and entertain them altogether. The effort turned out to be successful, and now he has a film in his list that has created records in the Hindi market.
Considering the above-mentioned numbers, trade experts and distributors are wondering who would be the next superstar to get a spot in the same list. For now, the first is Yash, whose Toxic is arriving next year. If not, then Allu Arjun’s mega-budget pan-India film with Atlee undoubtedly has the potential to collect more than other blockbusters.
But the biggest question is whether these films will have more entertainment and content. Nothing much can be said until we don’t get to see the promotional materials. Let’s wait for more updates.
