Suriya Hurting His Own Films? Bad Planning

After the back to back failures of Kanguva and Retro, Suriya has nearly completed shooting for his next two projects, Karuppu directed by RJ Balaji and the tentatively titled Suriya 46 directed by Venky Atluri. Expectations remain cautious among fans.

Despite both films nearing completion, their release dates are yet to be announced. Meanwhile, Suriya has already begun shooting for his 47th film, directed by Jithu Madhavan, who earlier helmed Aavesham. This overlap has sparked fresh discussion online.

Although Suriya 47 is confirmed as a cop film, reports suggest it will be a comedy action drama. Unlike a serious police narrative, it is expected to feature fun and mass elements, similar to Aavesham. The genre is said to be experimental for Suriya.

While early updates on Suriya 47 have been largely positive, some fans have raised concerns. They feel public attention is gradually shifting towards the new project, which could negatively impact the openings of Karuppu and Suriya 46.

Fans also point out that the prolonged delay in Karuppu’s release has already reduced its buzz. If audience interest shifts fully to Suriya 47, they fear it could affect advance bookings and theatre footfalls for the earlier films.

Because of this, some believe Suriya made a strategic mistake by announcing Suriya 47 while his other two films remain unreleased. They argue that staggered promotions may have helped maintain focus on each project.

In recent years, Suriya has faced a difficult phase, with none of his theatrical releases achieving major success. As a result, the performance of Karuppu, Suriya 46, and Suriya 47 is seen as crucial for his career revival.

It now remains to be seen how the makers of Karuppu and Suriya 46 rebuild audience interest. Their promotional strategies will play a key role in determining whether these films can emerge as blockbusters.
