The Telugu cinema industry is set for a major revival. After a long dry disaster phase, the box office is expected to shift into superstar overdrive over the next six weeks. This period may finally bring theatres back to life.
The slump would have ended with Akhanda 2, but its postponement from 5 December pushed the dull phase further. However, there is talk that the film may arrive sooner than expected this month. If that happens, it will mark the start of the superstar wave in Telugu cinema.
Next, several entertaining films are lined up for Sankranti. The biggest among them is Prabhas’s Raja Saab. Chiranjeevi is also gearing up for release with Anil Ravipudi, adding more star power to the festival season.
These two films are the major contenders for Sankranti. With strong star presence and promising comedy elements, they are expected to draw families and regular moviegoers back to theatres. The box office numbers may see a solid jump.
Tamil superstar Thalapathy Vijay will also leave his mark with Jana Nayagan releasing on 9 Jan. Naveen Polishetty is coming with Anaganaga Oka Raju, a film that already carries good buzz and appeal.
What is clear is that the next six weeks will bring continuous action to Telugu cinema halls. The momentum may very well begin with Akhanda 2. Telugu audiences have plenty to look forward to this festival season.
