Chandu Champion

Kartik Aaryan was the first hero to deliver a 180-crore blockbuster from Bollywood in the post-pandemic era with Bhool Bhulaiya 2 in 2022. He was considered the next big superstar from the younger generation.

His last film Shehzada however was a disaster. Now all eyes are on his upcoming biopic, Chandu Champion.

Directed by the acclaimed Kabir Khan and produced by Sajid Nadiadwala, Chandu Champion tells the inspiring story of Paralympic gold medalist Murlikant Petkar.

In a bid to generate buzz, Chandu Champion became the first film to announce its opening of advance bookings on the Burj Khalifa. However, these marketing efforts have fallen flat.

Despite the high-profile nature of the project, its massive budget, and desperate promotional strategies, the film’s advance bookings have been dismal.

Industry insiders speculate that the producers may have tried to artificially inflate advance sales to create an illusion of high demand, but even this strategy has failed to ignite interest.

The tickets sold in the three national chains of multiplexes (PVR, INOX, Cinepolis) haven’t even touched the 5000 mark yet.

A 15-crore opening day was the initial target, which would have been considered decent for the film. Now, even reaching a 10-crore opening seems impossible, with projections plummeting to a mere 5-6 crores.

The film’s fate now heavily depends on word-of-mouth. It needs to garner an overwhelmingly positive response on the first day to hope for a miraculous turnaround in its box office fortunes.

If Chandu Champion does not succeed, it will mark another significant setback for sports biopics in recent times, following the disastrous performance of Maidaan.
