50+ Releases, Just Five Noises In Two Months

The opening two months of Tollywood are done and dusted and there have been a fair few theatrical releases this month, including the Sankranthi specials Hanuman, Guntur Kaaram, and Naa Saami Ranga.

Nearly 50+ films have released in the theaters in the first two months of 2024 but only 10% of them – 5 have been able to make noise at the ticket counters.

The biggest hit of the year Hanuman went bonkers at the box office and is the highest-grossing Telugu film of 2024. Guntur Kaaram’s numbers are decent but not in the range of a Mahesh-Trivikram Sankranthi-release film. Naa Saami Ranga collected reasonably well in the domestic circuit and is a box office reprieve for Nagarjuna.

Ambajipeta Marriage Band and Ooru Peri Bhairavakona have performed reasonably considering their genre and word of mouth. They are the only tier-2 films to have made any noise at all at the box office this year.

The start to 2024 has been a rather hugely disappointing one with the success rate at less than 10%. With biggies like Kalki, Pushpa 2, Devara and Game Changer lined up for release in the latter half, it has to be seen how well Tollywood will fare in the remainder of the year.
