Chiranjeevi’s Rejection Ruined Director’s Career?

Director Venky Kudumula

The competition among new directors in Tollywood is getting tougher by the day. While some manage to establish themselves, others fade away after just one failure. Venky Kudumula is the latest addition to this list.

Known for his quirky script writing skills, Venky delivered hits with Chalo and Bheeshma, proving that he could handle comedy and entertainment well. However, he failed to maintain that momentum, and his recent outing Robinhood has turned into a massive disaster.

At one point, Venky had a golden opportunity—directing Chiranjeevi. The project was announced in 2021, and many believed it would be a career-defining moment for him.

But Chiranjeevi wasn’t convinced by the script, particularly due to the lack of strong mass elements. As a result, the film was shelved, dealing a massive setback to Venky. That rejection seems to have broken him mentally and creatively.

After that, his focus shifted to Robinhood with Nithiin. The film had a stylish presentation, big budget, and Sreeleela as the female lead. But once it hit the screens, it failed due to a weak story and predictable narration.

This failure has severely dented Venky’s reputation. Taking a five-year gap after Bheeshma and returning with a flop has made the industry lose confidence in him.

Now, if Venky wants to rebuild his career, he must shift his focus back to content-driven storytelling. Being a disciple of Trivikram, he has the ability to write sharp dialogues and engaging screenplays.

He must either come up with a solid new script to impress Chiranjeevi again or deliver a content-rich hit with a promising young hero or a senior hero. As of now his future looks bleak in Tollywood as a director.
