Some films are so shockingly bad that they end up becoming unmissable. War of the Worlds (2025), Amazon Prime Video’s latest sci-fi remake starring Ice Cube, has just earned a rare 0% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. And somehow, that is making people more curious.
Told Entirely Through Screens
The movie is presented almost entirely through Zoom calls, news clips, and security camera footage. One critic joked that watching it on your phone feels like watching a phone screen on a phone. While it aims for a “found footage” feel like Slender Man or Backrooms content, the result is a shaky, cheap-looking mess.
Aliens That Eat Data
The plot is just as bizarre. In this version, aliens do not want Earth for its land or resources. They come to consume human data. Ice Cube plays a Homeland Security dad who barely leaves his chair and spends most of the runtime monitoring his kids’ heartbeats.
One emotional scene involves his daughter’s Facebook account getting deleted. In a twist, the movie’s solution involves ordering a USB drive from Amazon and shipping it by drone to a data centre.
Cringe Moments and Product Placement
There is more. From endless product placement to awkward lines, the film rarely lets up. In one unforgettable scene, the President actually says the words “War of the Worlds” to Ice Cube during a video call. A Reddit user who watched the entire movie summed it up with just five words: “I hate this movie.”
So Bad, People Want to Watch
Despite the reviews, the film is gaining attention for all the wrong reasons. Its failure is driving curiosity. Audiences now want to see what makes a film this bad. Ironically, the 0% score has become its biggest selling point.
