In a time when progress should be at the forefront, it seems that the Government of some nations are taking a step backwards. With India being on a banning spree this last year, it appears that Bangladesh has also caught the fever. And the thing being banned in this case is Bollywood.
Indeed, the Government of Bangladesh has passed an official abstention on the use of songs from Bollywood, Bangla movies from India as well as movies from any other country. Not only this, but even the telecom services have been told to stop their use of Bollywood music as part of callertunes or ringtones.
This move has come under Bangladesh’s new import policy. The Government’s logic behind this is to promote their local music and films. However this does raise the question about the sanctity of human rights in our countries!
