The title Sardar wasn’t actually a surprise to Pawan Kalyan fans, they had actually heard about it when the name was registered many months ago. Only they didn’t anticipate that Sardar would be used in place of Gabbar Singh. So why this title change at this point?

The reason for this title change is one that people have heard in the past but might not be recollecting now. It is related to the name Gabbar Singh. To those who are still unaware, the rights of usage of the name Gabbar Singh are copyrighted by Sippy’s who made Sholey, where the iconic Gabbar Singh character originated from. So anyone who uses the name has to pay royalties to them. For Gabbar Singh, Bandla Ganesh being producer paid that was asked to.
But post the stupendous success of Gabbar Singh where the name become synonymous with Powerstar among Telugu people, the Sippy’s increased the charges, which prompted the makers of sequel to get a new name. Bengal Tiger which is currently used for Ravi Teja film was thus born. With Bengal Tiger also gone, the makers came up with Sardar as its replacement.
