Several leading South Indian actresses have drifted away from Tollywood, leaving fans frustrated. Shruti Haasan, Samantha, Kajal Aggarwal, and Nayanthara have drastically reduced their presence in Telugu films, sparking criticism over their career choices.
Shruti Haasan, despite being part of Salaar, has hardly signed any new Telugu projects. She also chose to walk out of Adivi Sesh’s Dacoit for reasons unknown. Her cameo in Hi Nanna felt like an afterthought, as she continues to prioritize other industries.
Samantha, once the queen of Telugu cinema, has almost disappeared after Kushi, focusing on Bollywood and web series like Citadel and Rakht Brahmand.
Kajal Aggarwal is attempting a comeback with Kannappa and Indian 3, but neither film is truly appealing to Telugu fans. Similarly, Nayanthara, despite her massive following in Tollywood, seems more interested in other industries, disregarding her core fan base.
The trend doesn’t stop with them—Pooja Hegde, Rakul Preet Singh, Raashi Khanna, and Rashmika Mandanna are all moving towards Bollywood or other industries, further frustrating Telugu audiences.
While it’s natural for actresses to explore new markets, fans believe they should at least balance their choices and not completely abandon Tollywood. Will they ever return with proper Telugu projects, or is this the new norm?
