A first of its kind, PM of India selects CBI Director

anil kumar sinha with narendra modiA very high profile panel led by Modi, Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge and Chief Justice of India HL Dattu approved Anil Kumar Sinha as the new Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Modi picked Anil’s name after revewing 40 officers shortlisted by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT).

The new CBI chief Anil Kumar Sinha, a 1979 batch IPS officer of Bihar cadre. He has been with CBI since 2013 and monitoring few high profile cases since he took the charge. Ranjit Sinha who just reitred from CBI faced several allegations and he is famous for taking naps during Narendra Modi’s speech.

This is the first time Prime Minister of India selected the CBI director. The earlier selection process was revised when Lokpal and Lokayuktas Act was passed this year. There is high interest over this change as there are several high profile corruption cases pending and Modi may give the new CBI director a free hand.
