A few NRIs who are the offsprings of Farmers who have given their lands for Amaravati have knocked the doors of the International Court of Justice regarding their issue. The international court of Justice (ICJ) is one of the Organs of the United Nations (UN). ICJ is located at The Hague in the Netherlands.
The ICJ settles disputes between states and gives advisory opinions on international legal issues referred to it by the UN. ICJ can also hear the violation of human rights issues related to its member nation. The petitioners in their complaint term Amaravati issue as human rights violation by the Government on the farmers.
The court has taken the cognizance of the case and will be allotting the Case Number in a week’s time. The Prosecutor gave an acknowledgment that the complaint is accepted. It will be very embarrassing for India to have a dispute related to Human Rights Violation in ICJ.
Its high time the Central Government interferes in the issue and do justice to the farmers who have given their lands for the Capital. As of today, the Union Government is trying to play a safe game on this issue considering the political gains of the BJP.
