Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu’s idea to use electric poles to lay optic fiber cables in their affordable internet to every household impressed Prime Minister Narendra Modi as well. Modi’s ambitious scheme, Digital India is of similar idea but is not going any where due to various issues.

In a meeting with Niti Aayog and the department of technology, ministry of Information and Broadcasting and department of telecom, Modi asked the officials to follow Andhra model to provide internet connectivity to rural India as the process has several advantages like lower cost, speedier implementation, easy maintenance and utilisation of existing power line infrastructure.
A team of officials from the Central government will be visiting the state and will sit with officials of AP government who are associated with this project to study the model. Andhra Pradesh’s Internet to All initiative is likely to roll out from August.
