The High Court has put a brake on the speed of the Jagan Government on the sale of government land. The court has issued key directives on land sales in Visakhapatnam. It is known that the government has given notification in the past to sell lands in five places in the metropolis.
The court on Friday heard a petition challenging the government’s decision. The petitioner contended that the court had granted a stay on similar attempts for sale in the name of Build AP in the past. The petitioner asked the court that the same directions should also apply to the sale of lands in Visakhapatnam, for which the court agreed.
The court subsequently issued interim orders not to finalize the tenders. Jagan Government which is in a dire financial condition has planned to auction lands in prime areas of Vishakapatnam to raise funds for various freebies. It has even tried to auction lands taken away from some investors who came forward during Chandrababu Naidu’s regime.
It has come under criticism because the Government itself will need lots of lands if it is serious about making Vishakapatnam the executive capital of the state.
