The volunteers system implemented by the government of Andhra Pradesh has come under severe scrutiny for misusing the public data and potentially using it to manipulate voting trends in the state.

Now, a petition has been filed at the Supreme Court by Citizens For Democracy group, led by former Election Commission chief Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar.

The group filed a petition at the Supreme Court, asking to cancel the volunteers system in wake of the coming general elections in the state.

The primary argument is that the public data collected through the volunteers system is being used by I-PAC to manipulate the electoral trends in Andhra Pradesh. They quoted that the volunteers system is against the constitution article 21 and 243.

These volunteers are being referred to as the representatives of the YCP government in Andhra Pradesh and their actions could lead to influencing of the voting trends in the state. The data is reportedly being profiled by I-PAC and they could well use the same for YCP’s gain in the coming polls.

If the petition is approved by the Supreme Court then it could mean that the village volunteers system could get cancelled before the coming polls in Andhra Pradesh.
