Andhra Pradesh is preparing for its upcoming local body election, which is approaching very quickly. The High Court of Andhra Pradesh has instructed the authorities to initiate the election procedure within six weeks timeline.
However, there is a significant road block for this as far as the government of Andhra Pradesh is concerned.
Earlier the Andhra Pradesh High Court had cancelled the earlier government order that was issued, which would grant 34% reservation for the BC community in the local election.
It was further instructed by the High Court that the overall reservation must not go beyond 50%. This is a negative result for the government of Andhra Pradesh, which was aiming to give 34% reservation to the BC community alone.
However, the government is not looking to go back on this matter as they have approached the Supreme Court with the intention of gaining the required authority to permit 34% reservation.
Historical speaking, the BC community had been with the TDP ecosystem for many decades. So granting additional significance to them, should be a matter of great interest for the party and the overall alliance as well.
We can expect the government to go every bit of distance they can to grant the 34% reservation for the BC community. But only time will tell if the Supreme Court would permit this in favour of the government.
