Anti-corruption section 17A(C) mandates the approval of the governor before arresting a former chief minister, as in the case of Chandrababu now. However, the AP CID is understood to have avoided this completely.
Let alone approving the arrest, the governor doesn’t even know about the arrest of Chandrababu Naidu. He got to know about the same only after seeing it on TV, it seems.
The current governor or the previous governor who was in charge when the case was first filed in 2021 weren’t intimated about the arrest.
The fact that the governor wasn’t even intimated about the arrest of CBN has shocked everyone as this is completely against the law. This illegal arrest can warrant legal action against those involved.
