Andhra Pradesh CM Chandrababu Naidu spoke about Sankranti traditions and said the Godavari districts instantly remind people of cock fights. He said the tradition adds to the festive spirit and attracts wide attention during the harvest celebrations.
Chandrababu Naidu said watching cock fights is entertaining, but gambling on them is not right. He pointed out that many people chase quick gains and develop a jackpot mentality, which often leads to financial loss.
He urged people to change their mindset and focus on protecting generational wealth. Chandrababu Naidu said traditions should be enjoyed responsibly and repeated his appeal to enjoy cock fights without placing bets.
Cock fights have long been part of the three day Sankranti festivities in the Godavari districts. However, visitors from both Telugu states and other parts of the country now arrive mainly to gamble on cock fights and card games.
The Andhra Pradesh High Court recently stayed the use of money in card games. Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan also appealed to people to celebrate Sankranti in its true spirit and avoid gambling, including 13-card rummy.
