The rivalry between the Daggubati and Nara families has been a significant aspect of Andhra Pradesh politics since the early days of the TDP. Despite being sons-in-law of NTR, they maintained distinct factions within the party during his tenure, albeit within certain boundaries.

Following NTR’s passing, Daggubati Venkateswara Rao gradually receded from the political scene in Andhra Pradesh, while his wife, Purandeshwari, emerged as a prominent leader within the Congress party during the periods of 2004 and 2014.

Purandeshwari enjoyed a ministerial position in the Manmohan Singh-led government when the Congress-led coalition government was in power and played a role in the division of united Andhra Pradesh. Subsequently, she shifted her allegiance to the BJP and contested the Rajampet parliamentary seat in 2014, although she was unsuccessful in that election.

Despite being the daughter of NTR, Purandeshwari’s political journey has largely remained independent of the TDP. As part of the BJP’s alliance with the TDP and Jana Sena, Purandeshwari is contesting the parliamentary elections from Rajahmundry.

The election campaign in the combined West Godavari district has gained momentum, with prominent leaders like Chandrababu Naidu and Pawan Kalyan scheduled to attend public meetings in Tanuku and Nidadavolu.

Purandeshwari, who is the BJP state president and candidate for the Rajahmundry parliamentary seat, is also expected to participate in the meeting in Nidadavolu. This assembly constituency falls under the Rajahmundry parliamentary constituency.

Previously, in Chilakaluripet, both Chandrababu Naidu and Purandeshwari shared the stage during a meeting where Prime Minister Narendra Modi was also present. During the event, Chandrababu Naidu urged voters to support Purandreswari. This episode underscores the dynamic nature of politics, where alliances and allegiances can shift, and there are no permanent friends or foes.
