As Chandrababu Naidu assumes office as the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, there is renewed optimism around the speedy revival of two major projects: Amaravati and Polavaram. The YSRCP previously sought to damage Amaravati’s image by linking it to the Vijayawada floods, a tactic they employed before and after the 2019 elections.

Even after losing the 2024 elections, YSRCP continues to criticize Amaravati, trying to undermine its importance. The TDP-BJP alliance is gaining momentum both at the state and central levels, with Chandrababu Naidu leveraging this partnership to secure funding and development for the state.

One of the most significant achievements under this alliance is the approval of ₹15,000 crore by the World Bank for the development of Amaravati, with Chandrababu Naidu receiving full credit for securing this crucial funding.

The loan, jointly financed by the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank (ADB), will be repaid by the Centre and the State governments in a 90:10 ratio. The World Bank is expected to release the first phase of around ₹3,700 crore by November 2024, with the application process having been initiated in August.

This swift approval within just three months reflects Naidu’s efficiency in securing international financial support. Prior to this, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had also announced the ₹15,000 crore allocation for Amaravati during her budget speech.

The Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) is preparing to resume the Amaravati project in December 2024, which is a major blow to the YSRCP. The previous government’s efforts to derail Amaravati and implement the three capitals plan have now been politically undermined by this massive financial boost, cementing Amaravati’s future as the state’s capital.
