Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has turned the spotlight on the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) ahead of the local body elections, making it clear that the battle will be fought over governance, development and public trust.
Addressing the media at his Undavalli camp office, Naidu accused the previous YSRCP government of diverting local body funds, damaging infrastructure and obstructing development. He also alleged that YSRCP cadres attempted to disrupt road works and that legal challenges were used to stall DSC teacher recruitment.
The Chief Minister recalled the NDA alliance‘s impressive 94 per cent strike rate and 57 per cent vote share in the 2024 elections, describing the verdict as a rejection of YSRCP’s governance. He highlighted welfare measures, including ₹4,000 pensions, Thalliki Vandanam and Annadata Sukhibhava, arguing that his government has focused on delivering its promises.
Naidu also highlighted Amaravati‘s development, progress on Polavaram, irrigation projects in Rayalaseema and investment opportunities in Visakhapatnam form the core of his development pitch. His government is seeking to present these initiatives as evidence that Andhra Pradesh is moving towards economic growth after years of disruption.
For the YSRCP, the challenge is to counter these claims and rebuild confidence among voters after its 2024 defeat. While Chandrababu Naidu has the advantage of presenting his government’s record. For the YSRCP, the local elections offer a crucial test of its ability to recover.
