Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu clarified why he did not back Telugu candidate Sudarshan Reddy for the Vice President post. During his visit to New Delhi on Friday, Naidu met NDA nominee CP Radhakrishnan and later addressed the media.
Naidu said that as TDP is part of the NDA alliance both at the Centre and in the state, he would vote for the official NDA candidate. He described Radhakrishnan as a suitable choice for the position, citing his talent and expertise. He also revealed that he was part of the decision-making process while selecting Radhakrishnan.
When questioned about not supporting Telugu candidate Sudarshan Reddy, Naidu was direct. He explained that the decision to field Radhakrishnan was finalised before Reddy’s name was announced. He added that expecting TDP to support someone merely on the basis of regional identity was not correct. Naidu recalled how TDP had extended support when Telugu leader PV Narasimha Rao became Prime Minister, but emphasised that this time, the party had already made its decision.
