It was not long before the Karur constituency in Tamil Nadu witnessed something extremely disheartening as a rally held by Vijay here resulted in a stampede that killed 42 people. This is one of the most unfortunate incident in Indian politics, and it also invited CBI investigation on Vijay.
Now Vijay is back at the same Assembly constituency, but this time he is at the capacity of the chief minister of Tamil Nadu.
The good thing that Vijay did here is that he has allocated government jobs to 32 family members of the stampede victims. This would essentially mean that the major majority of the family members of the victims have been covered by government jobs.
The opposition parties approached the High Court against this decision to allocate government jobs at will, but this was dismissed by the court. So Vijay is now able to allocate the jobs as he wished in the first place.
But Vijay said something else at the public meeting in Karur today. He blamed the Tamil Nadu Police department for not informing him about the crowd situation that day. It was made to seem like it was the fault of the police department by them.
Is the primary responsibility of political party and its representatives to assess the situation before such massive events. Simply blaming the police will not serve any purpose, apart from pushing the blame on the department. This is something that Vijay must understand now, considering that is the head of the state.
