BJP has made organizational changes to its state units in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Somu Veerraju and Bandi Sanjay have stepped down and were replaced by Daggubati Puradeshwari and Kishan Reddy.
Daggubati Purandeshwari’s appointment in particular is very interesting. Purandeshwari is the daughter of the Late NT Ramarao. She and her husband Daggubati Venkateswara Rao differed from Chandrababu Naidu and joined Congress.
Purandeshwari has Congress DNA in her and also served as a Union Minister in that party.
She joined BJP after the bifurcation and got some big organizational posts. Purandeshwari’s appointment is very interesting and its impact on AP politics will be keenly observed.
Purandeshwari is anti-Chandrababu but then, but she and her husband softened their stand in recent times. We have seen Chandrababu going to the hospital when Daggubati Venkateswara Rao underwent surgery. They are also seen together at family functions.
From the last couple of years, Purandeshwari is seen taking a mild anti-YSR Congress stance. There is no positive or negative towards TDP at the same time.
She did not join the Somu Veerraju’s group which extended unilateral support to the YSR Congress.
So can we consider this as a Pro-TDP or Pro-alliance appointment by the BJP? – We do not know yet!
There is another angle to the same story. Some people believe BJP may try to break the Kamma vote-bank and get the NT Ramarao supporters to its side to damage the prospects of TDP.
Both theories carry some credibility. We will get the answers in days to come.
Earlier Y Satyakumar’s name was heard for this post. He is of Venkaiah Naidu’s group and some people in the BJP believe Venkaiah is Chandrababu Naidu’s man. So the party’s high command kept their options open by opting to Purandeshwari who will not fall in any group.
