Won With BRS, Went To Cong, Got Disqualified!

Danam Nagender disqualified as Telangana MLA

Defections and political switches are extremely common in Indian politics, and generally, there is no legal action that is taken in this regard. But the BRS leadership in Telangana has taken pretty strong against its MLAs who won on their party ticket in 2023 and shifted to congress.

On that note, we have the case of Danam Nagender which is leading to multiple discussions all over.

The points to be noted here is that Danam Nagender won the Khairatabad Assembly seat on BRS ticket in the 2023 Assembly elections before joining the Congress after the election.

The petitions filed by the BRS leadership letter challenged Nagender’s continuation as an MLA after he switched from the BRS to the Congress. This matter was taken to the Telangana Assembly as well, but he rejected the same.

While continuing as an MLA, Nagender also contested the Secunderabad Lok Sabha election as a Congress candidate in 2024. This turned out to be a pretty controversial development at that point in time, but Nagender was firm on it.

However, the Telangana High Court has reacted on this topic today as the verdict is very clear and Nagender has been disqualified as an MLA effective immediately. This decision was passed by the Telangana High Court just a few minutes back.

The High Court’s verdict came on petitions seeking action against Nagender under the anti-defection law. The court set aside the Speaker’s decision in the matter and decided to disqualify him regardless.
