It is the promised land for most Indians, and there are communities of people whose life revolves around finding ways to land in the USA by hook or crook. Their sole purpose is to get a green card and get their family to the US.
Also, many who are already settled in the US make sure their kith and kin follow them to America by sponsoring them. But the situation is not as happy as one would want it to be. As Saif Ali Khan says in one movie, it surely is no la la land out there, where the officials see an application and immediately put their stamp on it.
In fact, there are reported cases of people dying in the US while waiting for green cards. Yup, that is a reality that many would not like to accept, but it is nevertheless the truth. Over the years, many rules and sub-rules have made lives miserable for all those aspiring to get their green cards so that their children can study or work in the US.
Adding to the trauma was much in the news President of the United States Donald Trump, who, during his highly controversial innings, made sure the process became as tedious as possible with lots of filling applications, security checks, and other details that the aspirants needed to fulfill to be eligible.
According to various studies, the number of people seeking green cards is ever-increasing, and there are many Indians queued up at various stages. But the harsh reality for many such Indians is the fact that a million people already living in the US waiting for green cards could die before their number comes.
