Kadapa district is the bastion of the YSR Congress Party. The huge presence of the Reddy population and Muslim population in the district helped YSR earlier and that has been passed on to Jagan Mohan Reddy now.
In the 2014 elections, TDP managed to win Rajampet only. In 2019, the party drew a blank.
Eenadu has come up with an analysis of the parties’ strengths in the district, which shows it will not be easy for the YSR Congress.
TDP+ is leading in three seats – Kadapa, Mydukuru, and Proddaturu.
Madhavi Latha is cruising ahead in Kadapa over Amjad Basha. Congress is dividing the votes of Congress here denting YSR Congress’s chances. Amjad Basha is a two-time MLA and there is an overwhelming anti-incumbency on him.
In Mydukuru, there is sympathy for Putta Sudhakar Yadav who lost two elections on a trot and so, there is sympathy for him. There are severe corruption allegations against sitting MLA Raghu Rami Reddy. Not changing him is a big mistake for YSR Congress here.
In Proddaturu, people are in favor of TDP’s candidate Varadarajula Reddy. There is severe anti-incumbency on MLA Rachamallu. Nandham Subbayya’s murder is also impacting the voting of BCs who are 60,000 voters in the constituency. Rachamallu is said to be spending so much money to change things here.
YSR Congress is ahead in two seats – Badvel and Pulivendula.
Jagan’s majority will reduce this time, Eenadu says. In Badvel, YSRCP candidate Dasari Sudha is leading by a small majority. Giving the seat to the BJP is helping the YSR Congress big time.
Eenadu says there is a keen contest in Kamalapuram and Jammalamadugu.
In Kamalapuram, Jagan’s uncle Ravindranath Reddy is facing severe anti-incumbency and corruption allegations. Whoever wins here is likely to win only by 5,000 votes.
In Jammalamadugu, there is a keen contest. Even the YSR Congress cadre is not happy with sitting MLA Sudheer Reddy. The situation is that he is spending money to buy his own party leaders. Adinarayana Reddy who lost as Kadapa MP in 2019 is contesting on the BJP ticket here.
Even if TDP manages to win the three seats where it is leading, it will be a stunning result considering the track record of TDP in the district.
