An RTI reply by Nacharam based State Food Laboratory revealed that 3,641 samples from both the Telugu states were tested and 254 products were found to be unsafe, 226 were misbranded and 145 sub-standard. Which mean 17 samples in every 100 tested were deemed not following the prescribed guidelines.

The RTI reply said that they have tested 33 samples of companies selling mineral and packaged drinking water. 11 samples are deemed unsafe and one sample is misbranded. These samples were taken from June to December last year. Things went worse between January and August this year, with 20 out of 40 samples of mineral and packaged drinking water failing the test.
The lab only revealed the details of their findings but did not reveal the names of the products which were deemed unfit for consumption for some reason best known to them. The products as a result continue to stay on the shelves of stores and people are still buying and using the product.
