The Guntur Lok Sabha constituency embodies a dynamic political arena comprising seven Vidhan Sabha segments.
Historically, the Congress party held sway over Guntur since its inception, yet the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) has surged in influence over the past two decades.
The upcoming Lok Sabha elections on May 13, 2024, during Phase 4, feature prominent candidates such as Kilari Venkata Rosaiah from the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) and Pemmasai Chandra Sekhar from the Telugu Desam Party (TDP).
Dr. ChandraSekhar Pemmasani, representing TDP, emerges as a formidable candidate, boasting considerable wealth. He succeeds Galla Jayadev who withdrew from politics before the polls.
During the 2019 elections, voter turnout increased significantly compared to 2014, with a close contest where Jayadev won over Modugala Venugopala Reddy from YSRCP.
Pemmasani faces stiff competition from YSRCP’s Kilari Venkata Rosaiah, the incumbent Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from the Ponnur constituency. He is also related to a former Union minister.
The electoral speeches pulsate with promises and visions for Guntur’s future.
Pemmasani champions economic growth by attracting global enterprises to foster employment opportunities.
Conversely, Rosaiah vows to alleviate traffic congestion, fortify infrastructure, and bolster agricultural resilience through irrigation and drainage systems.
Pemmasani articulates a vision of economic prosperity, while Rosaiah emphasizes grassroots development and infrastructure enhancement.
It would be interesting to see who will win the Guntur Lok Sabha constituency.
