Harish Rao Attends SIT Summons

Harish Rao attends SIT inquiry

BRS leader and former minister Harish Rao appeared before the SIT on Tuesday in connection with the phone tapping case. He reached the Jubilee Hills police station for questioning. Police, however, stopped his lawyers from entering the station premises.

Security was tight as Harish Rao arrived for the inquiry. SIT officials issued him notices on Monday. Since he was touring districts, the officials served the notices at his residence in Kokapet.

The phone tapping case has seen several twists over the past two years. Investigators have questioned many accused and victims. In March 2024, a case was registered at the Punjagutta police station over alleged phone tapping during the BRS government.

Reports claimed that phones of political leaders, officials, and even judges were tapped. The complaint stated that the government destroyed all evidence. These allegations triggered a wider investigation into the matter.

Following the case, key accused and OSD Prabhakar Rao reportedly fled to the US, slowing the probe. Although police arrested some accused, progress stalled due to his absence from the country.

After returning to India following court orders in June 2025, the investigation gained momentum again. SIT officials resumed questioning and moved the case forward.

Meanwhile, Harish Rao said the phone tapping probe aims to divert attention from alleged irregularities of the ruling Congress government. He continues to deny any wrongdoing in the case.
