If the reports emerging from government sources is to be believed, Hyderabad Metro Rail will begin on Diwali day. They say the government and the concessionaire, L&T is in favour of beginning two routes – Nagole to Mettuguda and Miyapur to Sanjeeva Reddy Nagar. Earlier the government wanted to begin all the routes at time.

But the Metro rail in remaining routes are running behind the schedule and are unlikely to complete before the next elections. So in order to avoid the criticism, government has now agreed to bring two routes in to operation. The project is very much delayed due to government stalling the works for alignment change.
But then no alignment is changed and all the time had gone waste. The concessionaire is demanding the damages incurred as a result or increase the project tenure by another 18 months. Since the compensation will run in to 1000s of Crores, government is likely to choose the second option. Government is considering launching the project corridor wise so as to make sure the people get a feeling the project is delayed.
