Businessmen in Pune have boycotted apples from Turkey this season setting an example for others. The reason being Turkey’s support to Pakistan during the recent skirmishes between the two neighbouring countries, India and Pakistan.

This could be the tip of the ice berg as the businessmen say that the retail buyers stopped asking for Turkey apples. From 1000 apples a day, the sales fell to 800 and then to 600 and less.

That’s when the businessmen realised that retailers were boycotting fruits from Turkey like cherries, plums and apples. We decided to do something for the country and took a decision to stop buying apples from Turkey.

The total revenue made by Turkey is around Rs 1200 crore and that would be affected. But Turkey sided with enemy country when all that India did was to wipe out terrorist bases in Pakistan, said a fruit businessman.

Seeing us, other places in the country too must stop buying Turkey apples, he said. Already Himachal Pradesh has stopped, following us, he said.

Turkey apples are imported for three months when Himachal and Kashmir apples are out of season.




The businessmen also remind that India was the first country to help Turkey when an earthquake hit the country. We sent doctors, medical aid and other necessities. In return, they sent jets and drones to Pakistan against us. To do our bit for the country, we boycotted Turkey apples, they say.
