Andhra Pradesh had shown way to the nation with the first ever river linking project, Pattiseema. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu released Godavari water from Pattiseema Pump. 700 Cusecs of water is being released in to Krishna in the first phase. All the 24 pumps will be made operational in phases.

Irrigation officials are planning to release 80 TMCs of Godavari water in to Krishna this year using Pattiseema Project. The water thus diverted from the Project will save the Khariff Crop in 13 Lakh acres in Krishna delta. The Krishna water thus saved will be diverted to drought hit Rayalaseema.
Interlinking of rivers is the only way of making India drought free. This was a dream project of Vajpayee endorsed by Naidu. But Vajpayee did not remain in power to execute it. But Narendra Modi still did not seem to have recognized the importance of this. After this, The government is contemplating the interlinking of Godavari, Krishna, Penna and Paalar.
