There is a long-standing tradition in the Indian Premier League (IPL) where the first match of the tournament is played between the previous year’s finalists. But this tradition is being broken for the first time this year as the first match of IPL 2024 is not between last year’s finalists Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans.
IPL 2024’s schedule has been unveiled a short while ago and it confirms that the first match is to be played between Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore.
The opening match will be played on the 22nd of March which is exactly a month from now and it will be between CSK and RCB at the former’s home ground of Chepauk.
Ironically, last year’s runner-up, Gujarat Titans will face Mumbai Indians in their first match of the tournament. This comes after Gujarat’s ex-captain Hardik Pandya moved to Mumbai Indians this year. Hardik, who captained Gujarat for the last two years will be facing them as Mumbai’s captain in this year’s tournament.
The schedule for the first 21 matches has been unveiled today and the rest of the matches will be scheduled soon. Attached is the newly released first schedule.
