
Thug Life star and MNM chief Kamal Haasan filed his nomination for the Rajya Sabha seat from Tamil Nadu. He had deferred his nomination in the past.
The term of 4 RS members will be end on June 24. The election commission has fixed June 19 as the election day for new members. Hence, Kamal Haasan who is a poll ally of the ruling DMK, filed his nomination in the presence of Tamil Nadu chief minister Stalin.

Three other members too filed nominations along with Kamal Haasan. The actor who is in the thick of controversy for saying Kannada originated from Tamil, made a formal entry into politics in 2018.
He launched his party Makkal Needhi Maiam, MNM, as a regional party to fight dynasty politics. Ironically, he aligned with Congress-led INDIA bloc and DMK, both of which are dynasty parties.

MNM stayed away from contesting in 2024 Lok Sabha elections and supported DMK in return for a Rajya Sabha seat. MNM, as we reported earlier, campaigned for 39 LS seats and 1 Puducherry seat.
MNM contested general elections in 2019, when all its candidates lost deposits.
