Telangana government is keen to win GHMC by hook or crook. As getting the votes directly from people in settlers dominated areas is not easy, the government is concentrating on indirect votes. Earlier during YSR regime, a rule was brought to make Telangana MLCs are voters in GHMC if their vote is registered in Hyderabad.

Earlier KCR government cancelled this rule but is now bringing back the rule to steer to safety in GHMC elections. TRS if do not bag majority divisions, is planning to win Mayor seat with the votes of MLAs and MLcs.
Currently TRS have 29 MLCs, 8 MLCs for Congress, Zero MLCs for TDP, BJP and MIM have one each. In Hyderabad, TRS have two MLAs and attracted four other MLAs from TDP.
