If there is an Indian Politician who had effectively used Twitter, it is Telangana’s IT Minister, K Taraka Ramarao. He is one of the most active politicians on Twitter who has established a connection with the people using his account. At times, he also helps people in distress through it.
We have seen him sending oxygen concentrators and medicines to several COVID patients when they approach him on Twitter. Thus, the microblogging site has been a major gamechanger for KTR‘s image. However, he announced plans of quitting Twitter.
News channels are abuzz that the Government of India may ban certain social media sites which do not comply with the new rules set. Twitter is one of the social media sites which is yet to comply. A netizen asked KTR which social media platform he will prefer if Twitter is banned in India. KTR answered he may quit social media altogether if that happens.
In to the details of new social media rules, the new regulations require the social media sites to appoint a resident grievance officer, a chief compliance officer, and a nodal contact person. Meanwhile, WhatsApp has approached Delhi High Court against these regulations saying that they mean an end to privacy and also violate Indian Constitution provisions. The rest of the social media giants are also expected to follow.
