In the South, a star hero’s film release is no less than a festival for fans. From towering cutouts to milk abhishekams, special celebrations and grand fan shows, the excitement reaches another level. Fans go all out to celebrate their favourite heroes, making every big release a festival of its own. However, when it comes to female stars, the same level of celebration is rarely witnessed.
Regina Cassandra believes this difference needs to change. She feels female stars also deserve grand cutouts and celebrations similar to those enjoyed by male superstars. Speaking about the subject, Regina praised her Mookuthi Amman 2 co-star Nayanthara and said female actors deserve to be celebrated on an equally grand scale.
For years, the idea of superstar celebrations in South Indian cinema has largely revolved around male actors. Their film releases often come with huge cutouts, fan gatherings and elaborate celebrations. Even actresses with considerable popularity and a strong fan following rarely receive similar treatment.
Nayanthara has built a strong position for herself across South Indian cinema. The recent installation of a 60-foot cutout of the actress reflects the kind of fan following she commands. However, such celebrations for female stars remain relatively rare when compared to the grand displays routinely seen for male superstars. Regina’s comments go beyond praising one actress and raise a larger question about why female stars are not celebrated with the same enthusiasm as their male counterparts.
Regina’s remarks bring this disparity back into focus. Is it time for female stars to receive the same grand celebrations that have long been reserved for male superstars?
