The AP government has approved large-scale land pooling in Vizag, Vizianagaram and Anakapalli districts to facilitate urban expansion. The directive is in alignment with NITI Ayog’s growth hub (G Hub) strategy which aims to develop Vizag as the Bay City or Miami of the East.
MAUD has directed Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA) to implement a land pooling scheme covering Rs 1941.19 crore. Under the Visakhapatnam Economic Region (VER) plan, covering 9 districts, the regional economy is projected to grow from $54 billion to $135 billion by 2032.
Vizag 2.0 in 210 km and Vizag Bay City in 40 km will be developed as brownfield projects to accommodate future urban and economic growth in sustainable and structured manner.
For the same, government is heavily investing in infrastructure including the Vizag Metro rail project. Phase 1 and 2 will be completed by 2028 and 2030.
It will also connect the IT corridors and Bhogapuram international airport. The government is spending between Rs 4000 crore and Rs 5000 crore for urban infrastructure.
