Since yesterday night, media channels in the state are abuzz that Telugu Desam Party leader Mothukupalli Narasimhulu is quitting TDP and is planning to join Congress. Mothukupalli had pinned high hopes on Rajya Sabha seat this time but Chandra Babu could not accommodate it. The angered leader left the Polit Bureau meeting midway and is planning his future course of action. Chandra Babu today sent in Errabelli Dayakara Rao and others to pacify him.
Analysts gauge that Mothukupalli’s exit may prove costly for TDP. Mothukupalli is from Madiga community on which TDP is banking heavily on next elections. If Mothukupalli leaves the party, it will send wrong signals to that community that TDP do not care for Madigas. Also Mothukupalli effectively shielded the party and its Presidents from TRS and YSRCP. His exit will mean that the already weakened party in Telangana will further deteriorate.
