Nellore City Candidate Finalized: Vemireddy Rebellion

MP Vemireddy Prabhakar Reddy

Discord has once again erupted in the YSRCP in Nellore district. According to party sources, MP Vemireddy Prabhakar Reddy (VPR) was deeply offended by CM Jagan’s decision to appoint Nellore Deputy Mayor MD Khalil Ahmed as the Nellore City Coordinator.

Jagan, who wishes for Vemireddy to contest the Nellore Lok Sabha seat, revealed that Vemireddy expressed his displeasure over the appointment of Dr. Khalil as the Nellore City Coordinator without consulting him. Reliable sources suggest that Prabhakara Reddy met with his office staff on Saturday, expressing his inability to stand where there is no value and declaring his withdrawal from the Nellore Lok Sabha constituency.

He disclosed that he never proposed to Jagan that his wife, Prashanthi, would contest for the Nellore City seat. It was allegedly the CM’s office that suggested Prashanthi’s name for Nellore City. Vemireddy showed reluctance to meet Khalil, the newly appointed coordinator for YSRCP. When Khalil’s personal assistant called to arrange a meeting, Vemireddy hung up, expressing his unwillingness to meet anyone.

On Saturday, Vemireddy left for Delhi with his family. Jagan has been struggling to gain clarity on the situation in Nellore district for some time. There were speculations that Jagan had convinced Vemireddy to continue Anil Kumar Yadav as the Nellore City MLA. However, Anil has now been announced as the Narasaraopet Lok Sabha candidate, and Khalil was promptly appointed as the Nellore City Coordinator.

Vemireddy disapproved of these developments happening without his knowledge, making his decision a topic of discussion in political circles. Many names from Nellore City, including VPR’s wife Prashanthi Reddy, were considered for declaring MLA Anil Kumar Yadav as the Narasaraopet MP candidate.

Unexpectedly, the deputy mayor of the corporation, M.D., who belongs to Anil’s community, was chosen. VPR was reportedly offended as the in-charge was announced without informing him. Additionally, he strongly advocated for Kandukur ticket to be given to MLA Mahidhar Reddy, but the YSRCP chief sidelined his request. These factors are believed to have upset VPR.
