One of the main dialogues used by YS Jagan Mohan Reddy during the 2024 election campaign was “Nenu button nokki meeku help chesanu”. This roughly translate to English as “I pressed the button and delivered many welfare schemes to you directly.”
This was a part of a brief narrative that Jagan had built for himself, where he had the habit of pressing a button to disburse the monetary schemes to the public. He felt this would be his election campaign, Hallmark material, and repeatedly spoke about this during the campaign.
But in the end, the results were so very disastrous for YSR Congress that the people pressed the EVM button in the opposite direction and taught Jagan valuable lesson. But Jagan did not change his methodology one bit as he repeatedly comments that his button strategy was absolutely right.
But it turns out that deputy CM Pawan Kalyan has a better understanding of this scenario than Jagan who experienced it first hand. He said Jagan is of the delusional mind that welfare alone can win the electoral vote.
“If all you are able to do as welfare, then what about the governance and infrastructure development? How is Andhra Pradesh getting better roads today than anytime in the past? We are delivering socially engineered governance, which was lacking in the previous tenure.” Kalyan said.
Kalyan pointed out that hospital, schools and roads are more important than just welfare and intimated that the YCP got removed from power for ignoring all these for the sake of just welfare schemes.
