The Election Commission once again issued directives to Chief Secretary Jawahar Reddy regarding the distribution of Pensions.
Citing so many complaints about intentionally making Pension distribution complicated, the Commission asked Jawahar Reddy to ensure the usage of Permanent Government employees to distribute pensions. In case that is not possible, the pensions should be deposited in bank accounts, the EC instructed.
We are just four days away from May 1st.
Last month, we saw the Government intentionally making the pension distribution complicated and taking the lives of 32 old-age people.
The Government machinery cooperated to have YSR Congress leaders and cadre do photoshoots by parading the Pensioners before the media.
The Election Commission barred the usage of the Volunteers in distributing pensions. But CS Jawahar Reddy is accused of misinterpreting it as not allowing Pensions Home Delivery which led to so much of a ruckus.
The temperatures are going to be even higher in the May first week. As of today, the Government seems to be completely unprepared for the smooth distribution.
The Election Commission just reiterated its March 30th directives.
But what if Jawahar Reddy decides to help the Ruling Party once again?
At most, the Election Commission will transfer him and remove him out of the Election Duties. But by that time, he will be already finishing the duty.
If the pensions are distributed between May 1st and 4th, the polling will be not even two weeks away.
YSR Congress will do everything to make use of this opportunity.
The Election Commission should not be a Paper Tiger in this issue.
This is also a test of the BJP. Something substantial here will only prove having the party in the alliance will make any sense.
