‘Polavaram Would Have Been Complete By 2022’

Nimmala Ramanaidu on Polavaram progress

Andhra Pradesh Water Resources Minister Nimmala Ramanaidu attended a review meeting in Delhi with Union Jal Shakti Minister to discuss the Polavaram project. The meeting focused on project progress, fund releases, and rehabilitation updates.

After the meeting, Ramanaidu told the media that the YSRCP government had derailed the Polavaram project. He said 70% of the work was completed between 2014 and 2019, but the YSRCP government neglected it completely, leaving its future uncertain.

He added that after returning to power, the TDP government brought the project back on track. Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu visited Polavaram immediately after the election win and directed officials to complete the project by 2027.

Ramanaidu said work on the new diaphragm wall has reached 56% completion. Despite continuous rainfall, construction is ongoing. He stated confidently that the government is determined to finish the project on time.

“If we had won in 2019, Polavaram would have been complete by 2021–22,” he said. Ramanaidu also accused the YSRCP of halting work in the name of reverse tendering, which further delayed the project’s completion.
