Prof Kodandaram is once again in the news after the Supreme Court struck down his MLC nomination made by the Telangana Congress government. At the time of the verdict, he was in the US and unavailable for comment, but he has now returned and shared his views with the media.
Responding to questions, the veteran leader said that one must be prepared for challenges in public life. Having spent decades in politics and being a key figure in the Telangana movement, Prof Kodandaram stated that such hurdles must be accepted with patience and responsibility.
When asked about the sharp criticism from the BRS party, he remarked that he would leave the matter to the wisdom and common sense of the pink party. He added that a pebble on the road should not halt one’s journey but only serve as an obstacle to move around.
Prof Kodandaram further said that his political journey began during the Emergency in 1978, and since then, he and his colleagues have worked for democratic rights and values. He reminded that their movement has seen many highs and lows over the past fifty years, but their mission will continue with determination.
On the MLC controversy, he declined to comment as the matter is still with the Court. When asked if he would accept the nomination again should the Telangana government propose his name after the verdict, Prof Kodandaram replied that only time will decide the outcome.
