Four Rajya Sabha seats from Andhra Pradesh will fall vacant by June. This creates fresh political interest. Parties are already planning their moves. The elections are expected to draw strong attention.
Out of the four retiring members, three belong to the YSRCP and one to the TDP. Their exit changes the numbers. This gives the ruling alliance a clear advantage. It is likely to sweep all four seats.
The terms of Alla Ayodhya Rami Reddy, Pilli Subhash Chandra Bose and Parimal Nathwani will end on June 21, 2026. All three represent the YSRCP. Sana Satish from the TDP will also complete his term in June.
Sana Satish won his seat in a by election held last December. There are strong rumours that he may get a renomination. Party sources say the alliance is well placed to retain control. The numbers support this view.
As per current talk, the TDP may get two seats. Janasena could get one. The BJP may also secure one. This seat sharing formula is doing the rounds in political circles.
There is also talk that Raghu Rama Krishna Raju could get a Rajya Sabha seat from the TDP. His name keeps coming up. He remains one of the most talked about leaders from Andhra Pradesh politics in recent years.
Raghu Rama Krishna Raju rose to fame during Jagan’s tenure. He won on a YSR Congress ticket but later became a rebel against Jagan Mohan Reddy. He fought the government for nearly four years.
He was the first major leader to oppose Jagan after the 2019 defeat of the Opposition. Through his daily TV show Rachabanda, he attacked the government for more than three years. Many credit him for hurting Jagan politically.
He also faced sedition cases and custodial torture while in jail. Despite this, he continued his fight. For four years, Jagan ensured that RRR could not even enter his own constituency.
That phase is now over. Raghu Rama Krishna Raju is part of the ruling side. He was elected unopposed as the Deputy Speaker of the Andhra Pradesh Assembly and is now enjoying his new role.
With Jagan trying to avoid the Assembly, RRR has gained more visibility. He has also built strong connections in Delhi between 2019 and 2024. This makes a Rajya Sabha seat attractive for him.
However, this plan has a problem. If RRR goes to the Rajya Sabha, Undi will need a by election. Even though Undi is a strong TDP seat, the party may not want to spend money and energy on an unnecessary poll.
