The Election Commission of India announced the schedule for the by-elections of Six Rajya Sabha Seats. The By-elections will happen on December 20th.
Three seats of Andhra Pradesh are going to By-election after the resignations of YSR Congress MPs Mopidevi, Beeda Masthan Rao, and R Krishnaiah.

All three seats will become unanimous in favor of the Ruling Side since the YSR Congress had just eleven seats in the Assembly.
Reports are that Beeda will be renominated once again from TDP. The remaining two berths will go to newcomers and the competition will be intense.

There are a total of 11 Rajya Sabha seats in the state. Till now, all of them are YSRCP members. After the party’s crushing defeat in the last general elections, the situation is changing. With three resignations already, the YSRCP’s strength in the Rajya Sabha has dropped from 11 to 8.
With those three seats to be won in the by-elections, the alliance’s strength in the Rajya Sabha will start with three.

There are reports that the BJP is seeking one seat in the three and Chandrababu has agreed as well.
If that is true, it is a big mistake. The NDA Government is dependent on TDP’s numbers in the Lok Sabha.
With Maharashtra win, BJP will look to engineer defections and avoid that dependence. TDP has no presence in Rajya Sabha. It is important that it should have these three seats in the Upper House so that the state will have enough bargaining power as and when needed.
With the kind of arm-twisting the BJP did during the Assembly elections, it is too much to give the party the crucial Rajya Sabha seats as well.
