Revanth Reddy’s government is all set for a cabinet expansion this week. The Telangana Congress has decided to include former MP and cricketer Mohd Azharuddin in the cabinet. He will take oath as a minister on October 31. The AICC has already given its approval for his induction.
Azharuddin was earlier keen on contesting from the Jubilee Hills constituency. At that time, he mentioned that he shared a close bond with Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi. However, the party gave the ticket to Naveen Yadav. There was also talk that Azharuddin would be made an MLC, but the latest development has surprised everyone.
By bringing Azharuddin into the cabinet, the Telangana Congress is clearly looking to strengthen its connection with the Muslim community. With the upcoming local body and 2028 assembly elections in mind, this move seems aimed at consolidating minority votes. In Jubilee Hills, Congress already enjoys an informal understanding with AIMIM, and Azharuddin’s entry is expected to further boost minority support.
