Riyan Parag: Disaster To Sensation

Riyan Parag

22-year-old Rajasthan Royals batsman Riyan Parag had a terrible season in IPL 2023. His performance was disastrous tallying only 78 runs across seven innings at an average of 13 and a strike rate of 118.18.

This underwhelming output was particularly disappointing for the Rajasthan Royals, who had invested INR 3.8 crore to retain him in the previous year’s auction.

However, the narrative took a dramatic turn in this season as Parag found his form. Positioned at No. 4 in just two innings, he amassed 127 runs at a sensational strike rate of 171.62.

In a stunning display of batting prowess on Thursday, Riyan Parag took on Delhi Capitals’ seasoned pacer Anrich Nortje, plundering an impressive 25 runs in the final over of the match in Jaipur’s Indian Premier League (IPL) encounter.

Parag stole 25 runs off Nortje with scores of 4, 4, 6, 4, 6, 1 to hit his highest T20 score of 84. His remarkable assault saw him amass 84 runs, marking his highest T20 score, following his notable 43-run innings in the previous match.

Parag’s resurgence this season has been nothing short of spectacular. Parag has silenced his critics and affirmed his potential as a future star.

Kudos to Rajasthan Royals management who supported Parag during his tough times.

Avesh Khan showcased nerves of steel in a high-pressure situation, delivering a superb over to defend 17 runs in the last over and secure victory for his team.

With the team securing their second consecutive victory, Rajasthan Royals’ campaign gains momentum, while Delhi Capitals grapple with their second successive defeat.

With that, all nine games in IPL 2024 have been won by the home team.
