Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases a week ago predicted the worst to come for the Americans. “There could potentially be between 100,000 to 200,000 deaths related to the Coronavirus and millions of cases in the USA,” he said.
The scientist, however, says there are “good signs” from New York, citing data saying the numbers of hospitalizations, ICU admissions and requirements for intubations over the last three days showing a dip. However, he was quick to caution that the United States still has much work to do.
The US Administration calls the ongoing week as the peak death week of Coronavirus. Some call it United States’ Pearl Harbor or the 9/11 moment. Fauci says that there are good signs and hopefully “we will never have to get back to where we are right now”.
He hopes scientists will develop therapeutic drugs to contain the contagion in the meantime and a vaccine will obviously be a showstopper. The US administration is hopeful of more Recoveries given that India has allowed the export of malaria drug called hydroxychloroquine which is proving to be effective in treating the Virus. The death toll in the country already crossed the 10,000 mark.
